This Restaurant is located in a Casino. Food is not bad, decent portions, expensive for the area, and service is good. I was not impressed with the cooking of my rib-Eye, though it was technically rare the fat came out rubbery - which in my opinion shouldn't happen. The seafood on the side salad was impressive however and the ribs were good. Under $80 for 2.

Once again the Montana City Grill failed to meet our expectations for a special dinner. The food is mediocre at best, one would expect a lot more for a $30+ entree! I ordered the prime rib to be cooked medium, it came out a bloody mess that I couldn't eat. The accompanying mashed potatoes portion was a 1/4 cup in size, not what one would expect in Montana! The gravy taste like it was made from a store-purchased package! Our other entree was the "sea bass special". There was nothing special about the 30 dollar piece of fish! It tasted like it was something left in the freezer that they were trying to move quickly! The salsa topping tried to mask this fact, but the salsa was rather bland, not adding in any way to the dish. The bake potato was your average baked potato, hard to mess it up! The service was terrible to match the food. Our waitress was not seen again once the meal was served, leaving our drinks to run empty, and my rare prime rib sitting intact on my plate. When she did return she didn't offer refills, not did she inquire as to why my meal was untouched. When I did speak up to complain all she could do was show me where she noted "medium" on her order pad. I'm glad she did think, but this proves she did not follow through to make sure the meal was prepared as requested. Then she was off, returning with the bill for the full amount, doing nothing to rectify the situation. I left the restaurant hungry and very disappointed by the experience. We will not be returning to the Montana City Grill anytime soon if this is their standard for food preparation and customer service!

I've ate here several times. It's hit and miss for food quality. The staff has always been friendly, attentive and overall great. The noise level can be unbearable at times so if that is a problem you need to go before the dinner crowd. The food at times is good but never great. I've had several bad meals. The last one in particular, I had the huckleberry BBQ chicken. It had an extra side of hair. I don't make a big deal about that because that kind of thing happens. I just want a new plate of food which they were very good at getting. The chicken however was very bland and tasted like bottled BBQ with no hint of huckleberry. In my opinion, it is very over priced for the quality of food. Keep the wait staff and dump the food supplier and/or find a new chef.

This place really isn't what it used to be. WHen I was a kid we would come here, it was busy, the salads were huge, the meals were awesome, and the service was great. We came here last night for a birthday dinner, and it took 2 hours for dinner. It took 30 minutes just to get drinks. We had to ask for refills, one at a time. It was about an hour before we got salads. The salads are small, and they put stuff on them that we asked not to have on them. The ribs were ok (the BBQ sauce is great!), but not super tender. Kinda tough. The waitress apologized for the meal taking so long and offered a free dessert (which came out super quickly, interestingly enough), but all in all the dinner really put a damper on the evening by taking so long. We won't be back for a long time (unless it's to buy a bottle of the BBQ sauce, haha :)).

Stopped in for late lunch after hiking in Elk Horn Mts. Service was very good. Food was fresh and well prepared.

Very nice atmosphere and servers. Prime rib was below average in taste. Absolutely go to Chubby's for prime rib. Also I must note, the Montana City Grill is suppose to be an upscale place yet they use Comic Sans font on their menu... If you're an upscale restaurant, make a professional menu, it looks like a 3rd grader made the menu.

Let's have a look...$12 for over cooked 1/4lb hamburger. Six of us dining, three burgers burnt and the other two had dry chicken. One escaped without a problem. Took way to long to get our food. Waitress never came back. Of course everyone was out of water trying to down the burnt food. Had to walk up to the bar with our glasses to get served. Will not be returning. Too hard to get into the place in the first place. Head into Helena and eat at Silverstar. Better food, service and prices. Our friends from Helena hyped this place like crazy....they were embarrassed.

Hit and miss. Some days the steak is great and others is way over cooked. The calamari is the same way.

We held our 25th Class Reunion here (HHS!!) this past summer. In planning this from California, I have to say that Chris made it very feasible and easy (helped that I had someone in Helena to go check it out!). The food was wonderful...the room is perfect for a small group...and the people are just out of this world. Reasonable prices and did I mention how great the food was? Next time I'm back home...I'm headed to dinner there...no banquet, just a nice yummy dinner!

Decent place to grab a steak. Definately not the place to go if you're watching your weight.

It's got a seafood salad that is awesome. I've had good and bad entrees but the salad is good every time. It's nothing special but it is a good restaurant and for the most part the service is good.

The Montana City Grill & Saloon is pretty pricey for what you get. The decor is nice, the staff are nice, but the food is NOT a great value. The menu selections provide for a decent selection, but come on, $15.00 for Spaghetti with marinara sauce?, and by the way, that is all you get, noodles, and sauce for that price. Spaghetti was also the cheapest menu selection, and the prices just went up from there. Want a great steak? Drive up the road and go into Helena for the Silver Star.

I've always liked the food- even a picky relative of mine who visits periodically enjoys it. It tends to cater to families, so don't expect a nice quiet evening- you'd expect a lot of noise in the grill/saloon area, but it'd be nice if you could hear yourself talk in the dining room- if the clientel are noisy, tho, that can also mean they're happy, so that can be a good sign. A problem in general with restaurants is they tend to be entry level jobs for kids and those fresh out of school, so the work ethic and manners tend to be somewhat lacking, but you'll find that at a lot of other places. Service is not the best at peak hours (which is understandable), so we like to go during off-hours. They do have some experienced and friendly wait-staff. I give this restaurant 3 and a half stars!

I really, REALLY want to give this place more stars but unfortunately one of my most unforgivable moments in dining took place here. I'll start with the good: The food is damn decent, I almost always have salmon something (and they can cook it medium rare!) and the motherly servers are fantastic. I like the atmospheres, and I say this because they can accommodate a private date night or a good group party all at the same time! I continue to eat here fairly regularly and always enjoy it! (even the ugly moment was funny enough be enjoyable) The Ugly: NOTE: servers who argue with customers are not very bright; especially when they have no idea that the customer is a professionally trained chef. My husband ordered a steak, medium rare, it arrived almost completely well done. Normally he'll eat it anyway but it was a special occasion and just TOO well done so he talked to the server about it and asked to get a new one, never pleasant but it happens right? She picks the plate up from in front of him and holds it at eye level and says "In this light it looks medium rare." FANtastic, if he wants to go all the way up there to eat a hovering steak it will LOOK like it's medium rare. She does take the steak back, and to be fair was very congenial about the whole thine, and when it comes back it's blue rare, he decides to eat this one after one more round of the server telling us that in the fluorescent light of the kitchen it was definitely pink (I swear, it was not) We did get free dessert and as I mentioned she was pleasant the whole time and we got a good laugh (still do) about steak being medium rare in the right light!

We ate at the Montana City Grill for lunch. It was good but the portions are huge! Neither of us was able to finish the meal. The lunch menu is substantially smaller than the dinner menu, so we are absolutely planning the go back for dinner at some point. I generally do not like french fries but forgot to ask to switch for a salad so my sandwich was served with fries and they were absolutely fantastic! I now understand by a basket of cheese fries is a lunch entree item. The service was good and the atmosphere is casual without being seedy. I recommend giving this place a try.

I went there for an anniversary dinner with my husband. We went in and the host said he would be right back, he left we waited 10 minutes and two ladies came up to the counter and neither one even acknowledged us. Someone else walked in who they were on the first name basis with and gave her the to-go order, a few minutes later another person walked in and asked to place a to go order, again they were on the first name basis with him and he was promptly helped. By this time 15 minutes had gone by and we were still waiting. A couple (also known to the two ladies at the front) came in from the bar side asked if they could have a seat in the dinning area, they were shown to their seat right then and there. I had gotten completely fed up by this time and walked out. My husband waited a few more minutes (total wait time 30 minutes) and no one ever came back. I will NEVER set foot in that place again.

Good food and steaks. Not a bad place for being in Helena montana. But not as cheap as I would expect either. Service was nice and my soup was very good along with my steak. It has a full bar too.
